Weekly Updates from Mrs. McNair

Good evening MGES families!

Second-grade CogAT testing begins this week. Please be sure to get plenty of rest and get to school on time, ready to do your best.

As a quick reminder, our breakfast cart closes at 7:30 am. We don’t want anyone hungry so if your child needs a school breakfast, please have them arrive prior to 7:30 am.

We will have our first School Improvement Council meeting this Tuesday in the library at 5:30 pm. Our first order of business will be to elect our chairperson. Following our SIC meeting, our PTO will meet in the library at 6:30 pm for our monthly meeting. A link to our PTO meeting will be shared Tuesday for those who want to join virtually.

During the month of October, we are wearing PINK on Wednesdays to honor and remember those fighting against Breast Cancer. In the next few weeks, we will be sharing details about our part in Linking Lexington, our community fundraising plan to support local families fighting all forms of cancer.

Our first in-person book fair in TWO YEARS is coming soon! We are having an in-person fair from Thursday, October 14th until Wednesday, October 20th.

Parent/Teacher conferences are the week of October 18.  Your child’s teachers are in the process of scheduling conferences and we are looking forward to 100% participation.

October 21 is a student holiday and October 22 is a weather make-up day. Barring any unforeseen weather situation, this will be a holiday for all students and staff.

Picture makeup day and LOOLA pictures are scheduled for November 4. Be on the lookout for details to come.

Upcoming Events:

  • Thursday, October 14th until Wednesday, October 20th: Our first in-person book fair in TWO YEARS is coming soon! The online fair will also be open until October 26th, which can be found by going to our Book Fair homepage:

    • Students will only be able to shop the fair during their already scheduled homeroom checkout time. If they do not bring in money (cash or check) with them or have an eWallet setup when their class comes to shop, they will have to place an order online at home.

    • Families can choose to add funds to an eWallet, which can then be used to pay for purchases at the fair - no cash needed! Just add the amount you are giving them for purchases at least one day before they come to the fair by visiting our Fair Homepage (link in the first bullet). Any leftover money will remain on an eCard that can be used on the Scholastic Store Online or at the next Meadow Glen Elementary Scholastic Book Fair.

  • October 11 - 15: World Language and Cultures Week

  • October 21: Student holiday/Parent/Teacher Conferences

  • October 22: Weather Make-up Day/Holiday

  • October 25 - 29: Red Ribbon Week/Linking Lexington

  • October 29: Report Cards

Exploring the Glen and the MGES Website continue to be a great resource for information happening at Meadow Glen Elementary School!

Healthy updates:

If your student receives a positive test result for COVID-19 infection or is identified as a close or household contact of someone who tests positive for COVID-19, Lexington One now has a Google form to complete to notify your school. The form is linked in our emailed message. As always, you can give Nurse Flanagan or me a call or email.

If you are out due to illness or quarantine, we want your first priority to be getting well. After that, we will share a Week at a Glance and learning information so that your student can stay up to date. Teachers are working hard to make sure learning can continue through these unforeseen absences. When it comes to vacations or planned absences, it is very important to plan these during the many scheduled school holidays. If you are aware of an absence that cannot be avoided, please communicate with your child’s teacher well in advance. They will do their best to work with you regarding assignments.

  • The building opens at 7:00 am and instruction begins at 7:40 am.

  • Make sure your child is bringing their device each day charged.

  • Students may be dropped off in the front or back of the school. If your child would like to eat breakfast at school, please have them inside before 7:30.

  • The breakfast cart closes at 7:30 am. In the mornings, students may be dropped off in the back while an adult is on duty. Once that door has closed, morning drop-offs will need to happen at the front door.

  • Don’t forget your water bottles.

  • Personal communication devices (smartwatches, phones) should be powered off during the school day. These are a distraction in class to your child as well as others. If communication is needed, please work through our office, the nurse, or your child’s teacher as needed.

  • Fridays are Spirit Days at MGES and if you are looking for some gear, check out the PTO online store. The link is in the emailed version of this message.

  • You can also consider being a substitute teacher. If you are interested in substituting this year, check out

See you all soon as we work together to Empower each child to design the Future!

Believe Work Grow...We are Crew!
