Degrees and Certifications:
Melody Shafer is a graduate of Ball State University with a degree in Interior/Environmental Design. She obtained teacher certification through Indiana Wesleyan University and holds a Master of Science in Education degree through Walden University. She is a trained Franklin Covey facilitator and currently serves as MGM's Service Learning Coordinator. She enjoys infusing the iCivics classroom with opportunities for students to live and learn citizenship. iCivics is an online curriculum founded by former Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor. Mrs. Shafer works to engage students in current events, foundations of government, and service work. With the goal of building young citizens who will serve as leaders in society, she seeks to build student understanding of our country’s governmental structure and engage each student in a variety of on-campus and off-campus service-oriented projects. Students have contributed volunteer efforts to Harvest Hope, Presbyterian Community, Pets Inc., Meals on Wheels, etc.. Students have opportunities to hear from lawyers and individuals involved in state and local government. Her goal is to support young leaders who will remain civic-minded throughout their lives, play an active role in government, and contribute to the well-being of society.
