National Board Certified Teacher, early and middle childhood art B.F.A. in art education, University of South Carolina

Caroline Butcher

Hi there! I'm Mrs. Butcher, and I am an artist and an art teacher. This is my twelfth year of teaching. I spent eleven years teaching art in Lexington-Richland 5, and achieved National Board Certification in 2017. I graduated from Lexington High School, then attended Appalachian State University as a forensic chemistry major. After volunteering with children and realizing I wanted to be a teacher, I got my BFA in art education from The University of South Carolina. My concentration was in drawing and charcoal is my favorite medium, but I am trained in almost all art media.

If you want to see the digital portfolios of MGM art students, you can find various works at our Artsonia page.

The arts teach respect, empathy, connection, higher order thinking, self-understanding, social and environmental awareness, and visual literacy. My favorite artists are Jacques Louis David, Amy Sherald, Jen Stark, and Kehinde Wiley. I live with my husband, Nick, who works with children and adults with disabilities. We have two sons and two dogs. I love reading, football, science, cooking, the mountains, and rainbows. I love giving back to the community that raised me and working with our awesome students, families, and community! I hope my classroom is a place where you feel loved and appreciated, no matter who you are. Everyone is welcome in the art room.
