  • WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM MR. MOODY

Please remember there is no school (Monday, January 20) in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  The school will resume on Tuesday of this week.  On Wednesday of this week, a film crew will be on campus at GPS for the Visionaries documentary.  We can’t tell you how excited we are to showcase the amazing work of our dedicated teachers, support staff, and our hardworking students.

On Thursday of this week, we’ll have a Reading Fundamentals parent workshop in the GPS Family Center from 7:30-8:00 in the morning and we’ll repeat the session at 5:30-6:00 pm.  Light refreshments will be served and our Literacy Coach, Mrs. Kelly Stone, will be the presenter.  Contact our Parent Liaison, Mrs. Lucy Ortiz, at 821-1408 if you’re interested in attending.  This is for parents of students at any grade level and we look forward to offering several other parent workshops later this semester.

I have a couple of reminders about our car rider procedures.  If you use the front car rider line, please remember to pull forward as far as possible to the adult standing at the end of the sidewalk (and that adult is usually me).  Even if no cars are in front of you, please don’t stop at the crosswalk or at any point before the adult standing at the end of the sidewalk.  If relatives, grandparents, friends, or neighbors bring your child to school, please be sure they know what our procedures are to prevent an unnecessary back up of traffic.  Also, please enter our campus at a safe speed and remember that it can be difficult to see small children who might be standing or walking between cars in the parking lot.  Our first priority is always the safety of our students.

Finally, I have a couple of reminders about the upcoming rezoning process.  The Lexington One Board of Trustees will conduct a first reading of the proposed attendance zones for Gilbert Elementary (that's us) and Centerville Elementary on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in the auditorium at Central Services.  On February 4, a public input meeting will be held at the current Gilbert Elementary and a public input meeting will be held on February 5 here at Gilbert Primary.  Both meetings will begin at 6:00 pm.  We hope to see many of you at the public input meetings.

As always, I encourage you to visit and volunteer in our wonderful school as often as possible.  Remember – you’re always welcome at Gilbert Primary.  Have a good evening.
